People are gradually shifting towards healthier lifestyles, and yoga has been a massive part of this movement. It teaches mindfulness, increases strength and flexibility, and ultimately, when we spend time on our mat, we just feel better.
There is no question yoga has become mainstream, and so has the love for great apparel to move in. Liquido Active has been a brand I personally wear and have admired for a long time. We love their buttery soft fabrics, how light they are in hot climates, and of course, the cute prints. So working with them over the past couple of years has been amazing.
Back in March we shot one of their recent launches of limited edition prints in Costa Rica. The last photoshoot we did for Liquido was in Mallorca, Spain which was gorgeous, but a very different landscape. This time the focus was beachy tropical scenery and lush jungle.
The brief was to shoot 10 looks, with 2 models, at 4 locations and deliver 30 images. We held a casting for 2 new models and delivered Liquido with options to choose from.
The first model / yogi they choose was Rodin VanLankveld, a Dutch yoga teacher living in Jaco and teaching at Aurora Yoga. Rodin is amazing. She has this soft gentle energy, is extremely body aware and is an absolute pro at finding her light.
The second was Melanie Martinez, a Costa Rican yoga teacher living in Nosara and teaching at Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort who is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, and has a playful, yet soulful practice.
To capture a variety of beach and jungle scenery, we decided to shoot at Punta Leona, Playa Hermosa, Hotel Doce Lunas and Esterillos Oeste. As usual, we have the looks carefully planned, knowing which model will be shot in which outfit. From there, we try to stylistically pair the looks with the right type of scenery so they pop.
This was the first time we shot at Punta Leona and we quickly understood why local photographers love this spot. Unlike most locations in the area, Punta Leona has fine white sand and uncharacteristicly blue water, not to mention the lush tropical backdrop, and dramatic rock formations.
Playa Hermosa, and Hermosa Palms specifically is the perfect location for beach, palm trees and gorgeous flat grass that works really well for yoga poses. This is a regular location for us, since sandy beaches can be a very challenging place to shoot apparel and keep the models clean and looking great.
Hotel Doce Lunas is a great location to get the “jungle look” with lush greenery and vines, without having to actually hike into the jungle. On a cloudy day you can get some really beautiful soft light seeping through the canopy.
Esterillos Oeste was a really odd mix between stormy skies, mixed with magic hour light that had a sort of commercial flash look. We always like shooting near the tide pools. The rocks and reflections in the pools have a way of creating an instant mood and appeal.
All in all, it was an amazing shoot, and really fun experience to shoot with 2 new yogis we had never previously met.
Liquido loved the images, and we loved working with the whole team there. It really makes a difference when you get people and brands together that are closely aligned in their vision and passions. We are learning to be very selective of the people and companies we choose to partner with, and are excited to work with more brands that we feel a personal connection too.
Thank You Renata, Carina, Thais, Gabriel and the whole team at Liquido for trusting in us yet again. We loved working with each of you, and look forward to creating with you more in the future…
